Option 1:
30 cents per pound per item

This is the carriers minimum liability. You, the customer, are agreeing in writing, with the mover, to share liability for loss and damage, even though the mover is handling your goods.

An example of this option would be:

A 200 pound piece of furniture is damaged, regardless of the damage, you would receive $60.00 towards the repair or value of the item. (30 cents x 200 lbs.) Likewise a 10 lb. floorlamp, you would receive $3.00. (30 cents x 10 lbs.)

Cost: None. Provided at no charge

Requirements: The customer writes on the bill of lading," 30 cents per pound per article" and signs appropriately.

Option 2:
Actual Cash Value - Declared Value

The customer declares the actual value of the goods being moved and writes this on the bill of lading. This is the mover's maximum liability to you. The minimum is $2.00 x the estimated weight of the goods, as provided by the estimate, or $5000.00, whichever is more.

In an event of a claim the damaged item will be settled on the basis of its actual cash value (depreciated value).

Cost: $10.00 per $1,000 of value. ( ie. $10,000 of value = $100.00)

Requirements: The customer writes on the bill of lading the value of the goods and signs appropriately.

Option 3:
Replacement Insurance with deductible options

This trip transit insurance is from a third party insurance company and offered by Shur-Way Moving. You, the customer, receive a certificate or policy of insurance. Deductibles are available designed to save you money. The policies are available as a zero deductible, a $250 deductible, and a $500 deductible.

Cost:

  • $0 deductible = $1.20 per $100 of value.
  • $250 deductible = $.80 per $100 of value
  • $500 deductible = $.40 per $100 of value

Requirements: The customer writes on the bill of lading the value of the goods, followed by the letters "RCP", followed by the chosen deductible amount and "DED", then signs appropriately.

Option B - $250 Deductible
Under Option B, in consideration of a reduction in the valuation charge, the shipper assumes responsibility for the first $250 of any claim.
Option C - $500 Deductible
Under Option C, in consideration of a reduction in the valuation charge, the shipper assumes responsibility for the first $500 of any claim. Please note that insurance must be signed before your move begins.

  1. All boxes should be taped top and bottom.

  2. We cannot move aerosol cans, matches, liquids or other flammables. These items are your responsibility. This applies to local and long distance moves.

  3. All pictures, mirrors, marble and glass tabletops, lamps and lamp shades should be carefully packed and labeled. Or, if you prefer, you can move these items yourself. Ifyou would like Shur-Way to pack these items for you, please let us know in advance so we can complete this important job the day before your move.

  4. Large dressers should be emptied before the movers arrive. Please discuss this with your estimator.

  5. Young children, cats, dogs or other pets should not be at home the day of your move if at all possible. Shur-Way movers work at a cautious but fast pace and do not want anyone to get hurt during your move.

  6. Fragile and valuable items should be packed away in boxes and placed in a corner of a room. Be sure to mark these boxes "FRAGILE." Point them out to Shur-Way movers. If desired, you can move these boxes yourself.

  7. Hallways and walkways should be left clear so Shur-Way movers can have free access to your house.

  8. Disconnect all TVs, stereos, washers and dryers, refrigerators, freezers, water lines, etc., before Shur-Way arrives.

  9. Use moving boxes whenever possible. Your move can take longer than the estimate if you use too many small boxes.

  10. If you want to save on time and money when moving locally, all beds -- including waterbeds, bunks and cribs -- should be dismantled before Shur-Way movers arrive. Shur-Way will provide this service if you don't have the proper tools or would rather not dismantle the beds yourself.

  11. Mark all your boxes clearly, identifying which room or location the boxes are to go into at your new home.

  12. Someone should be at your new home with a floor plan showing where your furniture and boxes should go. This will help speed up your move, reducing the possibility of your move exceeding the estimate.

  13. Clearly mark all boxes and furnishing planned for a partial move. This will make for a more efficient and cost-effective move.
  14. Remove all items from your attic, rafters and crawl space before Shur-way movers arrive. If desired, Shur-Way movers can remove these items for you, at an additional charge.

  15. Shur-Way can tape up open boxes on the day of your move for an additional charge ( by the hour). However, we cannot be responsible if something breaks inside the box. An obvious exception: if we accidentally drop or damage the box during your move.

  16. Empty coals and ashes from your barbeque grill. Also drain fuel from gas containers, lawnmowers, snow blowers, edge trimmers, etc.

  17. Clear all sidewalks and drive ways of snow and ice before Shur-Way movers arrive. As a courtesy, please leave a pitcher of water and glasses for the movers, especially during a warm summer move.

  18. Let our office know in advance of any changes in your plans. This will allow us to make necessary adjustments without undue inconvenience and cost to you.

  19. All pressed wood pieces of furniture will not be covered under the Customer Protection Plan unless they are taken apart.
